Garden Grove United Methodist Church
Like a ship breaching above the waves of grass, this brutalist church seemingly floats above its surroundinga. Suspending staircases, awnings, and walkways, and light shades of molded concrete give the structure an airy feel. Its subtly and effectiveness distracts the beholder from the fact that, yes, this lightweight structure is in fact built of steel and concrete. As is so often the case, the delicateness of the structure brings your eyes skyward, towards the soaring masts, and into the heavens beyond. (2021)
